Welcome to my classroom!
Hello, my name is Sherrie Blake and I'm proud to have been a part of Bangs ISD for over 20 years. My husband and I both graduated from Angelo State University and our daughter just began her first year there as well. My degree was in Elementary Education. I also have ESL certification and I am a certified Irlen screener. (Please scroll down my page to learn more about Irlen Syndrome.) I believe that our children are our future. Therefore, my mission is to help all students achieve success in the classroom as well as in life.

Tutorials:
Students in tutorials have access to computer software that supports reading and math skills along with direct teacher instruction. We also work on skills geared to a student's individual needs.
ESL:
ESL - (English as a Second Language)
ELL - (English Language Learner)
Our campus has a pull out ESL program with a certified ESL teacher. In the last year, many of our regular classroom teachers have become ESL certified. Students that are served in the pull out program receive instruction in learning English as well reading and language arts. Please see the TEA website regarding Bilingual Education.

Rosetta Stone: Our school has Rosetta Stone software available for students to learn English. I would like to invite parents wanting to learn the English language to come to my computer lab to use this as well.

Irlen Syndrome (sometimes referred to as Scotopic Sensitivity - SSS) is a type of visual perception problem. It results in people seeing a page of text differently and therefore they must constantly adapt to distortions on the page. It is not an optical problem. Individuals with Irlen Syndrome may be slower readers, suffer from strain or headaches, and even have problems with depth-perception. Colored overlays or Irlen lenses in glasses usually reduces these difficulties. On our campus Joy Mitchell and I are certified Irlen Screeners. Please contact either of us if you think your child needs to be screened. Also, please visit the Irlen webpage to get more information.
