Testing:
TPRI (Texas Primary Reading Inventory) Administered three times yearly: September (to assess level of entry reading skills), late January (to assess growth/weakness), and late April (to assess mastery/readiness for 2nd grade.) The TPRI is given individually. Since it is an assessment of where the student stands in regards to grade level reading skills, students do not "study" for the inventory, and no pass/fail grade will be given. Students will be scored Developed/Still Developing in areas of phonemic awareness and graphophonemic knowledge; as well as in areas of fluency and comprehension. An accuracy level of Listening, Instructional, and Independent will be assessed.
TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) While no TAKS test are administered in first grade, we work hard to prepare for the future success of the students. TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) are carefully incorporated into each subject area. Examples include process skills in science, writing from personal points of view in English, word problems in math, and use of different types of reading material. Students become familiar with the skills of reading for information and testing format that includes coloring in correct responses.

Greetings Parents! Wow what a great class I am blessed with! Parent support is wonderful too. Things students need to concentrate on for the rest of this semester: study spelling words, practice weekly dicatation sentences (from back of the spelling list), memorize math facts, and read as often as possible. Students may dy earn
prizes by participating in the Accelerated Reading program! Keep up the good work and contact me anytime you have a concern. -Mrs. Gamblin
